海外のオフィスにお邪魔していると、当然一緒に夕飯を食べたりすることもあるわけだが、そういう席で”上司の悪口”で盛り上がるのは洋の東西を問わない。悪口の中身も、自分の業績を取られただの、査定が低すぎるだの、自分のやりたいことをやらせてくれないだの、どこかで聞いたことのあるような話ばかりだ。

ただ、ひとつ違うのは、少なくとも筆者の主観では、彼らは同僚の悪口を全く言わないということ。それも、角が立たないように注意深く話題を避けているというより、単に無関心であるように見えるのだ。

よく考えてみると、これはジェノア型の組織では当然の現象だ。そもそも、同僚との共同作業が少ないのだから。隣の同僚がどれだけ仕事が出来ようが、逆に使えなかろうが、それは上司と雇用主の問題であって、自分は自分の仕事をきっちりとこなせばよい。そんな彼らが、折角の食事を同僚の愚痴などと言う非生産的な作業に費やす必要はないのである。
